Propagation of cuttings

Propagation of cuttings

To clone your favorite plant, you need the following basic material:

  • Mini-Greenhouse - Propagator (if possible with a warming pad).
  • Sterilized cloning shears, properly sharpened (razor or surgical knives / scalpel can also be used).
  • Rooting Hormones, such as Root It gel or Clonex.
  • Substrate for clones (Jiffy pellets, mineral wool, soil ...).
  • White / blue light source (fluorescent type).
  • Plant - mother, from which you will take the cuttings
  • The temperature should be between 18 ° C and 22 ° C and the relative humidity should be above 90% for roots, which can easily be achieved if heated mini-propagators are used.

How to make cuttings
1. Cut the shoots from the mother plant, preferably use only the apical vertices and cut the lower leaves and the top of the top of the new growth to prevent dehydration. Then put them in a container of tap water.

2. Prepare the substrate. If using Jiffy pellets, soak them in warm water (pH about 6) for 10 minutes; if you use mineral wool, you must pre-soak it for 24 hours in water (pH = 4.5) and add root roots until you reach an EU value of 0.60. If you use soil, just fill the pots or baskets with it.

3. Apply the rooting gel as described in the instructions and plant the clone in the substrate you will use.

4. Place the clones in the greenhouse / spreader and spray them with water. Once covered with the lid, place them under fluorescent light with 18 hours light / 6 hours dark light photoperiod.

5. Close the greenhouse / propagator properly and do not forget to open it and spray the plants with water once a day.

6. After 3-4 days, you continue to open and spray the plants every day, but this time leaving the openings in the greenhouse open.

7. After 8-10 days, if the substrate begins to dry, fill the greenhouse / propagator with one or two centimeters of water and leave it for 10-20 minutes so that the substrate is moistened again. Leave excess water to drain.

8. After 12-14 days, remove the greenhouse / propagator cover. If after 1 hour the cuttings remain straight, leave them uncovered and continue to spray several times a day. On the other hand, if cuttings lose strength after one hour, spray and replace the lid again. Try again a few days later.

9. Within 15 days after the start of the process, you should see how the first roots begin to appear. Some varieties may be earlier and rooted after 8 or 10 days, while others may take up to 20 days. Over 25 day cuttings, which are not rooted and remain green, will hardly be rooted.

10. Transplant the clones into a pot (pot, etc ...) and start with active fertilization.
