Metal halides have the more balanced spectrum.
The light they give out has a significant amount of light from the bluer end of the spectrum, which the plant uses to grow vegetatively. It produces plants with a small internodal length, with large leaves and thick stems. It produces the most natural looking plants. It simulates the light from the beginning of the year and is good for plants before they're switched into flowering mode.
They're normally slightly more expensive than HPS. Recently, there have been 'enhanced spectrum' MH bulbs produced which also give off a significant amount of red light. Conversion bulbs are also available which plug into HPS ballasts which are actually MH bulbs. Useful for changing the light balance without changing the ballasts also. In the event of a power failure, they need about 20 minutes before restating. They may restart earlier but it shortens the life of the bulb quite dramatically to try and start a hot bulb.

- Use the lamp with compatible electrical equipment.
- Use only UL and CSA approved chokes. Keep the lamp in direct contact with rain, sleet or snow to avoid breaking due to temperature changes.
- Install the lamp firmly but without excessive force in the stand to reduce vibration.
- Do not use excessive force to prevent the bulb from breaking. This is a vacuum insulated lamp and can burst.
- Replace the bulb if it is scratched, cracked or damaged.
- Turn off the lamp and allow it to cool before moving to avoid possible electric shock or burns. As a precaution, wear goggles when installing or removing the lamp.
- Replace the lamp at the end of its life cycle.
The lamp is provided with a warranty for defects for a period of 1 year from the date of purchase. During this period, the appliance can be returned to the seller with proof of purchase (receipt). If a defect is found, it will be repaired or replaced.
This warranty does NOT cover misuse of the appliance, accidental damage (dropping, wetting), repairs by unauthorized persons.
