Fertometer is an EC-meter that measures the level of electrical conductivity in the soil, thereby measuring the amount of salts in the substrate.
It is usually difficult to judge whether plants need to be fertilized . With this wonderful device, you can easily avoid mistakes in this direction. Fertometer works on the same principle as the plant. Like the roots of a plant , it absorbs nutrients from the soil.
By measuring the amount of nutrients taken up, it can be determined whether there are enough nutrients left in the substrate. These resorbable nutrients are called ions and consist mainly of nitrogen, the main nutrient for plants during the growing season.

Fertometer
If a potted plant is not growing properly and/or not blooming, it is often due to improper fertilization. One constantly wonders if they should fertilize or if they have added too much fertilizer? These fluctuations will end if you use a fertometer!
Insert the Fertometer probe into the soil and press the button. One of the lamps will light up:
- Red light : Stop fertilizing: there are too many or even too many nutrients.
- Green light : Fertilizing is good: but you can fertilize to maintain nutrient levels.
- Yellow light : Attention! Now you need to fertilize: there are too few nutrients in the soil.
Several prerequisites are important for an accurate measurement:
- To get a reliable measurement result, it is extremely important that the soil in the pot is wet everywhere! If this is not the case, water first and wait at least 30 minutes before measuring . It's a good idea to water in the morning and measure at noon.
- Make sure the probe is clean when you measure.
- The best measurement results are obtained at temperatures between 18 and 23°C.
- After measurement, clean the probe thoroughly and store the meter in a dry place to avoid oxidation. If the metal of the rod has become dull, you can gently clean it with a slightly damp sponge and dry it with a soft cloth.
Never leave the Fertometer in the pot after measuring!
For larger pots , several measurements at different points on the pot or tub are recommended. Three to five measurements give a sufficient idea of the total nutrients available.
You need to replace the soil or transplant your plants into a larger container. The old potting soil gradually collects all kinds of salts, which means that the plant becomes salty over time, leaves turn yellow and stops growing.
Fertometer works with 9V battery type 6LR61 (not included). To test the battery, press the button. The yellow light should come on. If this does not light up or goes out again, the battery is dead.
Attention : Fertometer is not suitable for liquids.
