There are many methods for germinating seeds (in a glass filled with water, a small pot filled with substrate, etc.). In this article, we will look at the most common method, namely germination in a wet cloth.
STEPS:
1. Take a plate or any flat container and a few paper napkins.
2. Place your seeds between the two paper towels.
3. Wet the wipes and keep them moist for the next 3/4 days. You can use a mixture of 100 ml of tap water with 1 ml of hydrogen peroxide, if desired. You can also use just water.
4. After 3-4 days you can see that your seeds have sprouted. If they haven't, replace the napkins with new, also damp ones.
5. Soak a few Jiffys (coconut Jiffy pellets) in tap water to hydrate them. This process takes a few minutes. You can add a root stimulator to the water (follow the manufacturer's instructions).
6. Once your peat pellets are hydrated, make a small hole in each one and gently place the sprouted seeds into the holes, always with the small root facing down (see photo). Cover the seeds with a thin layer of the top surface of the pellet (about 5 mm).
7. With a little patience, the first plants will appear in 3-4 days.
8. After a few days your seedlings will be ready to plant, either in pots/containers or in the ground. Note that you can improve your germination rate by using gibberellic acid - most commonly used to germinate old seeds. If you keep your seeds warm while they germinate, the process will be faster, but remember that the towels will also dry out faster! You will need to carefully check the humidity level to keep the seeds always moist, but not soaked in water. It is better to germinate your seeds by keeping them in a warm, ventilated and dark place.
In our ''Rooting Kits'' category, as well as in ''Cloning and Rooting'', we offer everything you need for successful propagation of plants through cuttings and seeds. There you will find propagators, pellets, rooting gels, nesting trays, mineral wool blocks and other specialized accessories. These products provide optimal conditions for rapid and healthy development of the root system, improving moisture retention and nutrient supply. Whether you are a beginner gardener or a professional, with our kits you will achieve a high degree of successful rooting!
One of our good offers is - Seedling Kit - Propagator, Tray 84 nests, Pellets 84pcs, Clonex gel
The set includes a propagator, a tray and Jiffy peat pellets. Humidity is controlled by adjustable holes on the top of the propagator. The high cover provides more volume, allowing the cuttings to stay longer so that they are stronger before grafting. The tray has 84 pcs. baskets. The pellets are a secure substrate for germinating seeds and rooting cuttings. Soak the pellets in water until they swell, then insert the seeds. The Jiffy blocks are wrapped in a biodegradable paper wrapper that keeps them intact.
Clonex - cloning gel 50ml - Powerful stimulation for the formation of green stem cells, accelerates the division of root cells. The special hormonal cocktail supports the formation of a healthy and strong root system.
The times mentioned in this post are only guidelines; some seeds may germinate in 48 hours, while others may take 10 days or more. Be patient and renew your wet wipes every 3-4 days.
